What is witch hazel?
Witch Hazel is a solution that can be used to soothe minor skin complaints and for first aid when the skin hasn’t been broken. You can use this solution to treat:
- bruises
- sprains
- minor skin irritation
- rough skin
- sore skin
- minor burns
- minor scalds
- insect bites
It can also be used to cleanse and tone the skin and as a makeup remover. Witch Hazel is particularly suitable for oily skin.
How it works
Witch hazel is an astringent, which makes the skin contract and helps to soothe it when it’s irritated. This helps to reduce minor bleeding or discharge while cooling and soothing the area.
Warnings
Only use this product on your skin, avoid contact with your eyes, broken or infected skin and other sensitive areas. Do not swallow this product.
Who can’t use Witch Hazel?
Do not use this product if you are:
- allergic to distilled witch hazel or hamamelis water
You should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you are:
- taking other medication (there are no significant reasons why you would not be able to use this product, but a medical professional can help you to be sure that this is safe)
- pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding
How to store Witch Hazel
Store this product below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

How to use witch hazel?
To use witch hazel:
- Apply a small amount of witch hazel to a piece of clean lint or cotton wool.
- Use this to gently apply the solution to the area of skin you wish to treat.

Side effects
Like all medications, witch hazel can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These can include the symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as:
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- a red, itchy skin rash (hives)
- difficulty breathing
- feeling faint or dizzy
